Fox News, CNN and MS NOW resumed live coverage from the White House on the closing day of a summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to a Bloomberg report dated 26 September 2026. The three networks carried footage of Trump hosting Xi and Xi's wife, Peng Liyuan, for tea at the White House. The broadcasts ended a stretch in which those same outlets had been excluded from live coverage of the president's events, a restriction referenced in the original headline as a ban. Because the three channels are among the largest US news broadcasters, their simultaneous return to the live feed means the event reached a broad television audience at the same moment rather than through delayed reports.
The aired material focused on a tea session inside the White House, with Trump, Xi and Peng Liyuan present. Tea is a common ceremonial format in state hospitality, and the presence of a leader's spouse adds a hospitality dimension that written pool notes and still photographs often convey only partially. Placing the segment on the summit's final day gave the images a closing function: final-day exchanges are generally where leaders seek to project that an agenda has been completed or at least formally concluded. For viewers, live video offers an immediate visual record of tone, seating and body language that a text dispatch cannot replicate.
The reference to a ban indicates that the networks had lost permission to carry live pictures from the White House at some point during the summit period. Access disputes between the executive branch and television outlets are a recurring feature of US politics: administrations of both parties have used press pool arrangements, credentialing rules and venue limits to shape when and how reporters can work. When live access is withheld, broadcasters typically fall back on written pool reports, wire copy or still images, which reach audiences later and with less immediacy. That difference explains why the resumption itself became newsworthy, separate from the diplomatic content of the event.
The coverage came on the summit's final day, a stage at which US-China leader-level meetings typically include both substantive bilateral discussions and ceremonial elements designed for public view. Hosting a counterpart at the White House for tea is a signal of personal engagement, and Peng Liyuan's participation places the encounter in a family-and-hospitality register rather than a purely negotiating one. Such imagery is used by both governments in their domestic messaging, with official media in each country often drawing on the same photographs and video. The fact that US networks aired the moment live means the visual record was distributed widely and quickly on both sides of the Pacific.
Fox News, CNN and MS NOW all carried live footage from the White House, according to the Bloomberg report. The three networks aired the same event: Trump hosting Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan for tea. Their return to live coverage ended a period in which they had been barred from carrying the president's events in real time.
The footage showed US President Donald Trump hosting Chinese President Xi Jinping and Xi's wife, Peng Liyuan, for tea at the White House. It took place on the final day of the two leaders' summit. Tea is a customary format for state hospitality, and the presence of a spouse added a ceremonial dimension to the segment.
A ban in this setting means the networks were not permitted to transmit live pictures from the White House for a period of time. During such restrictions, broadcasters typically rely on written pool reports, wire copy and still images instead. That produces slower and less immediate coverage, which is why the lifting of the restriction was itself treated as news.

The episode sits inside a long-running argument over executive-branch transparency and the terms on which television crews receive access to the president. Because networks compete for the same pool positions, an access decision affects more than one channel: it shapes the shared visual record that all outlets, including print and digital ones, can draw on. When live coverage is restored, the effect is immediate for audiences but also structural for the press corps, since pool access determines who can document events in real time. Based on public news sources.
Live video gives audiences a simultaneous, unfiltered visual record of an event, including tone, seating and body language that text cannot fully capture. For a diplomatic meeting, those images are often reused by both governments in their own public messaging. For news organizations, live access also shapes the shared pool material that all outlets can use.
The report only covers the resumption of live coverage on the summit's final day, not any formal change to credentialing rules. Access arrangements at the White House are typically governed by pool systems and venue decisions that can shift over time. Whether this particular resumption leads to a lasting change in access terms is not established by the available information.
